Here's the Haunted Mansion trophy from last Halloween's NWBrickCon, a gathering of AFOLs in Seattle. Does anyone know who built this?

Contest news

Updates on two contests:

The LeVig contest, which I previously blogged was won by Chris Malloy. I've previously noted his great Treacherous Waters.

The House of Bricks contest that I previously blogged was a bit of a bust. Noone brought castle-themed vignettes to the convention, so they decided to open it up to all vigs. Unfortunately, the only vigs in the voting were Adrian Drake's great Secret Agent vigs (that I've noted before), so he won by default.

Beach Party

Steve Bishop is celebrating his 500th post on Classic-Castle with a Beach Party, vignette style.

Knights of the Round Table

It seems that combination vignettes are the order of the day. Patrick Yrizarry presents a sereis of four vignettes--Elder Knights, Heroes and Villains, the Seat Royal and the Siege Perilous--that all combine to form Knights of the Round Table. In addition to fitting the history of King Arthur, this set of vignettes also celebrates the history of LEGO Castle, with most of the major sub-themes of Castle represented.

Saloon

Nathan Wells presents a set of vignettes: Bar, Gambling, Sheriff and TNT, which all join together to make the Saloon.

Index added

I've added an index of all of the vignettes that have been featured on VignetteBricks. This will be linked over in the sidebar and updated regularly.

Some stats:
In just over two months I’ve highlighted 147 different individual vignettes, plus 16 vignette groupings.
So far I’ve highlighted over 70 different builders (hard to say how many since a few of those highlights are of LUG meetings or contests with multiple entries).
The biggest vigger, by the very arbitrary standard of which ones I chose to highlight, is Nelson, with 16 blog entries, followed closely by Nathan with 13 and Shane Larson with 10.

Anyway, keep ‘em coming.

Vignette-Like Creations

I've debated whether I should cover these here on VignetteBricks. I've noticed a couple of great instances of creations that are very similar to vignettes, in that they use a small scene to capture an action scene, but they sit on much larger footprints, such as 16x16 baseplates. Since these can still capture the spirit of vignettes, I'm going to refer to these as "Vignette-Like Creations", or VLCs. So, anyway, here are a couple of instances.

Odaiba Contest 3 was a recent contest held at ClickBrick, a famous LEGO shop in Tokyo. All of the entrants had to sit on 16x16 bases, and several of them were Vignette-Like Creations (more pics here):

In another recent event, it seems that Lowlug, a Dutch AFOL group, had a similar Contest involving VLC's.
