A little more work on the ears

John-Lennon (hmm, I thought he was dead) made another entry for the Eurobricks contest, this one is a dressing room for the Lord of the Rings movie. The elf fig should be sitting in the chair getting the final touchup on his makeup. One quibble - if that's supposed to be John Rhys-Davies waiting for Orlando Bloom to finish, he's actually quite tall. I remember in the commentary tracks they noted that he was about the right height relative to the actors playing the hobbits so that when they were shooting a scene involving, say, Gimli and Frodo, they didn't have to do any special camera tricks or editing to get the heights.

Myth

Ponury123 has a great scene to illustrate one of the most haunting myths, Orpheus and Eurydice.

Eurobricks Collectible Series 3 Contest

Eurobricks is hosting another of their Collectible Series contests. The idea for category A is that you create a vig to display one of the figs from Series 3, but don't actually include the fig in the vig. For instance see Turambar1's vig built to house a fisherman.

Competition Time!

Throughout February, Vignette Bricks and the LEGO Vignettes Flickr group will be running a competition around the theme of "Murderous Minifigs!"

Build an 8x8 vignette scene depicting a murder...

There are two categories:

A classic Cluedo scene; featuring characters, locations and weapons from the boardgame; eg. "Professor Plum, in the ballroom, with a revolver" or "Colonel Mustard, in the conservatory, with the lead piping" etc.

Or a remix version; featuring characters, locations and weapons from out of your fevered imagination; eg. "Captain Magnolia, in the woodshed, with a stuffed muskrat" or whatever.

Rules:
- Vignettes must feature a victim, a murderer (named after a colour), a recognisable location and a murder weapon.
- Scenes must be put together on an 8x8 base, with a maximum of 1 stud "overhang".
- Murderers should be dressed predominantly in the colour represented by their name - customisation is allowed for this element.
- Custom weapons are allowed if you really feel you have to.
- The competition runs for the whole of February.
- Judges are Bruce and Rod from Vignette Bricks, and Roo from the LEGO Vignettes Flickr group.

Prizes:
- Each category winner will receive a new LEGO "impulse"-sized set and a couple of shiny new Collectible Minifig bags. More importantly, they will be proclaimed "Kings of Vigs" (at least until we run another competition).

Entries:
- Maximum of 2 entries per person, 1 in each category.
- Build something new.
- Entries should be posted in the entry thread over at the LEGO Vignettes group on Flickr.
- Questions about the rules etc can be posted in the "Q&A Thread" over there too.

Keelhauled

My apologies for my lack of blogging in recent weeks. I've been busy with family and holidays and also with the administration of the Colossal Castle Contest. Anyway, the Forbidden Cove has started up the Jolly Roger Contest II, a multi-category contest, and one of the categories is for 16x16 bignettes. One of the first I've seen is Wittmann's excellent keelhauled.

Christmas

One more. This was pretty much me frantically getting the last presents wrapped and under the tree this morning. Now I'm just waiting for the rest of the family to wake up. Anyway, iElkie's And What about Santa?.

Merry Christmas!

Rosa Parks

Today's Google doodle is focused on Rosa Parks, who 55 years ago today refused to give up her bus seat, leading to the start of a key phase in the American civil rights movement. After she passed away a few years ago I made this vig commemorating this moment in history.
