Holy cow! A few days ago, Nelson Yrizarry told me he was busy building vignettes, and he wasn't kidding. All in one fell swoop he presents a series of sixteen Spider-Man vignettes and bignettes. Let's start out by looking at The Lizard, Green Goblin and Man-Wolf.

Ach, zombies!

Flickr user Mainman has a great set of four vignettes that combine to show a Zombie attack. If you look close you'll notice a certain clueless fig named Joe.

SW vignette contest results

Voting is finished at the FBTB Star Wars vignette contest. It was very close, but the winner is Dennis Coh, with his Vader's hunt for the stolen plans.



Dennis writes: "I was originally planning on just building Darth Vader's entrance, since Darth Vader has been one of my favorite characters since childhood, and this scene is one that I loved the most (well, there's also the following scene where he chokes the rebel...). After going through the scene many times to pick out the details from the movie, the idea popped in my head to combine this with the Leia+R2(+3P0) scene to try to convey the entire story sequence. The tricky part was to build this such that the whole thing didn't look like two vigs slapped together. So I tried to build both the top and bottom with the same Tantive IV hallway styling, and I also attempted to give the whole thing an interesting overall shape so that the vig didn't look like a giant block. The whole thing took about 2 weeks to figure out what I was going to build, a full day to build and revise the details, and several hours to do the pics."

Coming in second by only a couple of votes was Jared Burks' Intimate stolen moments



These, and all of the finalists were all wonderful, and really any of them could have won. Congratulations to Dennis, Jared and the other finalists. Avatar the last vigbender

I don't really know anything about the cartoon Avatar, the Last Airbender, but LEGO has released two sets. Apparently some of the characters can control the basic elements of nature, as Fallen Phoenix demonstrates in three vigs: waterbending, airbending and firebending.

BTW, does anyone actually use this index? I index because I'm obsessive about organizing, but I wonder if I'm the only person who has ever looked at these. Now I'm going through and updating the woefully-out-of-date set of blog links.

Football fever

Like most American's I'm an idiot when it comes to the World Cup. I've watched parts of a couple of games, but Maciej Koszyka seems to be watching every game with his bucket of bricks handy, and he's documenting important events vig-style. Recent entries include Pirlo's goal, Sobolewski's second yellow card and Totti's injury.

Hmm, it must be wet in Japan this week. A couple of days ago Izzo posted a rainy-day vig, now Sugegasa is inspired by the Tsuyu (which means rainy season. I particularly like the umbrella.

Why didn't I think of this name?

K-hatch has come up with a much better name for the larger scenes that I've been calling vignette-like-creations (or VLCs) -- bignettes. That's so simple and obvious once you see it. What do you guys think? Should I keep calling these larger scenes VLCs, or start referring to them as bignettes? Anyway, one of his first bignettes is throne.
