Somewhere in Nevada...

Before I get to my first post:
Hello, I'm Harrison (Corran101), and I am one of the new contributers to VignetteBricks.
Now, to the post...

I just came across 2 Much Caffeine's "Boxing the Ark" vignette.
Boxing the Ark
I had seen it when it was new, but after coming across it again (now that I'm a contributor to the blog), I feel it should be blogged.
The crates are a nice combination of standard Lego crates with brick-built ones, along with SNOT for the base, and a neat tile pattern on the walls.

LEGO imitates art, art imitates LEGO

Adamanteum brings us Art museum. BTW, I'm intrigued by the relationship between LEGO and art. If I were more of a masochist than I am, I'd start another blog called ArtBricks. In the absence of that, I just ran across a MOCpages group on LEGO art. As of yet that group hasn't had much conversation, so I'm trying to jump start it with a couple of topics. Check it out and add your thoughts.

Poses

Posing minifigs can be frustrating. They have no knees or elbows, and what articulation there is is limited, so it is sometimes hard to get them to look natural. 74louloute has been experimenting and has come up with a number of unique poses, shown here in the Dubbing of Sir Arnault, Die you, Yellowish! and Sir Hruodland and Durandal.

LEAHI vigs

These vigs were in a gallery of MOCs from a LEAHI meeting (that's the LEGO Enthusiasts' Association of Hawaii). Does anyone know the builders?

Edit - Nelson let me know that the roller coaster is by Patrick Yrizarry and the rafting is by a builder named Randy. LEAHI had a vignette contest at their May meeting with the theme "My Favorite Summer Activity", and Patrick won it.
Thanks, Nelson!

Surrounded

Check out this great castle vignette by Garbageman13. I find the rippling water and the detailed cliffside to be quite awesome.

Armothe put together this little number using the Dragon wing in a rather neat way.

Dressed to KIll

I would guess the time has come for me to say hello too, and what better way to introduce myself than by highlighting this wonderful depiction of KISS by Jonathan Gilbert (Shmails)? Not technically a vignette but awesome enough for a post I would say.

So, that's it, I'm Jonas and now you know all about my childhood ;)

Saving Sergeant Jackson

Kevin (Crimson Wolf) has constructed this fantastic vignette depicting an insurgent hideout where Sergeant Anglo Jackson is supposed to be hidden. The details are great, including the timed I.E.D. and the fully-loaded insurgent.

(On another note, I'm one of the new co-blogger's that Bruce hired. Great to be part of the team!)

Driven into a Corner

crises_crs just unveiled this entry into the Vignette category of the Classic Castle Battles contest. Included are a number of fun techniques, from the Dwarf Beard, to the tiles and cheese slopes. And look at the new Space Police helmet!

Classic Castle Battles Contest 2009

Recently announced was the Classic Castle Battles Contest. Your mission? To create a medieval battle scene with copious amounts of Action and Drama.

New for this year was the introduction of the Vignette category!

Shown is an entry created by 2 Much Caffeine, aptly titled "Tavern Fight".

(Oh, and Hi. I'm one of the new bloggers as appointed by Bruce.)

LEGO torture

The creations are a little old, but I just saw this story on Wired. Legofesto made a series of scenes in protest of the abuse of prisoners at Abu Ghraib.

Happy anniversary, Chris and Erin

I've previously blogged these as Chris brought them to a couple of fests (even winning best vig at BrickFest 09), but Chris has finally posted his own photos in celebration of his and his wife's first anniversary. Anyway, Chris made a series of five wedding cake topper vigs, each showing a significant step in their relationship. Congratulations, guys!

Parada wspomnien

Okay, I'm not sure what's going on in pepik's Parada wspomnien, so I'll just give his explanation:
This series of vignettes is a visualisation of _Parada wspomnien_ -- the song of Polish band -- Kult. The song refers to the proclamation of Martial law in Poland on 13th December 1981.

If someone could point me to an English translation of the lyrics, that would be great. In the meantime it's a series of great vigs. My two favorites:

Thank you for the response!

Hi all,

I've gotten an overwhelming response to my previous call for help with running my blogs. If you've already e-mailed me, I'll be contacting you soon. If you've contacted me another way (e.g. leaving a comment on the blog or at Classic-Castle), please drop me a quick e-mail at bricktalesATgmailDOTcom. To all others, I'm still pretty swamped, but look forward to a reinvigoration of these blogs as we bring in fresh bloggers. In the meantime, I'm trying to do daily updates to GodBricks to get that one fully established. So check there for your daily fix of my blogging.

Help! Call for co-bloggers

Okay, I'm in over my head. I get excited about an area and create a framework for that, but now I have four blogs--VignetteBricks, MicroBricks, MinilandBricks and GodBricks--in addition to being an admin at Classic-Castle. Not to mention I'd like to do something on my own LEGO projects now and then. So I'm looking for some co-bloggers for the first three (I'm going to keep GodBricks to myself for a bit until it is fully established). This need not be burdensome - you're already checking Brickshelf, Flickr, MOCpages, etc., when you see a good MOC that's on-topic, post it to the blog. The code is really easy, so don't be concerned about that. I only ask that you try to stay with the same vision of the blog--i.e. if you're helping with MicroBricks, only post microscale creations. Also, this is not just a way to highlight your own stuff, but if you do make something in the theme that you think is good, go ahead and post it. This would probably work best if you're someone I already know from interaction on the various LEGO forums. If I had two or three partners for each blog it would be great. Let me know if you're interested at bricktalesATgmailDOTcom

Thanks,
Bruce

New blog - GodBricks

Hey all,

I've continued my blog proliferation with a new blog, GodBricks. As with my existing blogs, there will be a specific theme - the overlap of LEGO building and religious themes. Religion has been at the heart of much of the great art and architecture for millenia, and LEGO building is no different. I'm going to try to feature creations such as cathedrals, mosques, minifigs based on religious figures, illustrations of biblical or other stories, etc, from all faith traditions. There will be overlap with my existing blogs, as I have already, for instance, highlighted vignettes of stories from the Book of Mormon, a microscale cathedral, and a miniland-scale Mary and Jesus nativity scene. Please check out GodBricks and let me know what you think. I've also started a related Flickr group, LEGO and God, with the same theme.
