BrickJournal

BrickJournal Issue 9 is out! Be sure to download this, as this is the last free issue. Starting with the next issue, BrickJournal will be available in a print version. Follow the link above to learn more about subscription.

This issue has a couple of items of specific interest to the vignette fan. Most significant is a feature on Nannan Zhang (aka Nannan Z, aka A-tree) (Brickshelf, MOCpage). His surrealistic vignettes have been featured several times here on VB.

Also, a feature on Tania Baixinho shows one of her vigs.

The Far Vig

NWBrickCon is underway in Seattle. Someone has displayed a series of Far Side vigs. I recognize a couple, like the "What we say, what dogs hear." When I see better pics, I'll be sure to post them here.

8x8 = 575 ?

Derek Schin presents another haiku with Guitar Hero.
Rock stars preen and strut
While they shout at the devil
But he's just a geek.

How-con

A while ago, Earl-o Kotaro held How-con, a contest based around the new skeletons and skeletal horses. This spurred Mashikuf's sc2.

Sportastic

Luxorv also has some sports-themed vigs like Motocross fun and Mountain fun.

Exo-vigs

Luxorv has a series of Exo-force vigs, including movie parodies of Star Wars and the Matrix.

Creepy

Nannan Z always has provocotive vigs, like these Torture stands.

Lucy in the Wardrobe with Fauns

DARKspawn has a great Narnia vig called What Lucy Found There. The construction of Mr. Tumnus is particularly clever.

Cheating

Hmm, this really belongs on Scaled up LEGO bricks, but this diver scene from (apparently) the Children's Museum in Winnipeg is a giant version of a vig. In a related theme, Joniis has a Coral reef expedition bignette.

Ravenous

Unfortunately I can't link images off of the Lowlug site, so when they hold their periodic Mini-MOC-Madness contests, I have to wait until people post their creations on Brickshelf, Flickr, or some other site, to have anything other than text here. Anyway, Jovel has recently posted Oh what fun, a ravine (second place entry in the "Vacation" contest) and Tornado (fourth place entry in the "Weather" contest). It looks like time for the next contest, with the theme "Gladly that I file" (hmm, that's what Babelfish gives me; maybe someone could leave a comment with a better translation). --Update: Marakoeschtra has let me know that it should be "Gladly that I drive."-- Keep tuned for entries and winners from the new contest.

Mr. Sandman, send me a dream

If you've ever read the Sandman graphic novels you'll love this series of MOCs by Shane Larson, including a vig, On the Shores of Night.

It's a small, square world after all

At the 1000SteineLand event in Berlin, someone (a MALUG member?) presented a series of Nation vigs, such as China and Germany. I really like the mosaic backgrounds in these.

Hey, it's a MOCbox!

Haven't seen one of these since Nelson posted his original idea. Nannan Z presents a MOCbox called Trapped.
