Happy birthday, Ben!

Today would have been Ben Franklin's 300th birthday, so it seems a good time to remind people of a previously blogged creation by Googleplexer's brother: Ben Franklin.

Proof that "Storytellers" really missed the mark

A few years ago TLC put out "Storyteller" sets that were often technically vignettes, but they were really lame. For instance, compare set 7204, Jedi Defense 2, to Devastator's great VLC Jedi Defence.

As promised, Nathan Cunningham has come through with some religiously themed vignettes, these coming from the Book of Mormon. He starts out with Pillar of Fire.

A couple of days ago I blogged about some great vignettes by Izzo based on Japanese proverbs. Dunechaser did some research and found explanations for them. And on the eighth day, God built vignettes

For the past few years, one of my favorite LEGO sites has been Bendan Powell Smith's Brick Testament, in which he recreates Bible stories in brick form. If you have not seen it, go there now.

Now series king Steve Bishop has started a much smaller (well, 8x8) version with a new series of biblical vignettes (bib-vigs?). Things start off in Genesis with The Fall and Cain and Abel.





Keep an eye out for an upcoming Noah vignette.

J. Hassett is doing some similar things with his Creche and Moses creations.





Nathan Cunningham says he's planning on doing some bib-vigs himself, so watch his site for that.

Well, actually, I have no idea how the old Japanese proverb goes. However, Izzo has a great gallery of vignettes based on Japanese proverbs. Hopefully Dunechaser will be able to shed some enlightenment via his Pan-Pacific Bricks blog.

A new vignettes gallery

Many LEGO builders publish their photos on Brickshelf, but Flickr is another great photo-sharing site. Flickr users can join together to link similarly themed photos, and recently Andrew Reynolds started a Flickr vignettes pool. Keep your eyes on this site for more great vignette creations.
